Bol.com was founded in the Netherlands in 1999 from a construction site in Vianen. We were the first online bookstore in Europe. More than 20 years later, we are the largest online retail platform in the Benelux and we have expanded our range of books to millions of products in dozens of product categories, with a focus on non-food.
As one can expect, with the growth of bol.com, the number of fraud cases is also increasing. In addition, fraudulent behaviour is constantly changing. Fraudsters regularly find new ways to abuse the platform. To stay ahead in this cat-and-mouse game the Fraud and Risk department of bol.com aims to proactively prevent fraud from happening on the platform.
During this talk, Corneel Braber and Doreen Posthuma will take you through the fraud landscape of bol.com. They will discuss how the Fraud and Risk department moves from an only rule-based reactive approach to a more proactive data-driven approach. As the Fraud and Risk domain becomes more proactive, data science is becoming more important. They will elaborate on the challenges they have encountered while developing data science within the domain and how they have approached these challenges.
